5. Joan Jett and The Black Hearts
I was looking for something fun to watch after my family had watched our recording of the season final of Sherlock and found an episode of Guitar Center Sessions featuring Joan Jett and The Black Hearts. To tell the truth I hadn't really listened to much Joan Jett before watching the show, but I love Guitar Center Sessions so I knew it was going to be cool to watch. If you haven't seen Guitar Center Sessions it is a show the chooses one musical group or artist and they do a concert and an in depth interview. I discovered as the show went on that I Joan Jett and The Black Hearts were pretty flipping awesome. I love that she really knows how to play her guitar. Some girls really do play so flimsy and girly but she doesn't. She really has a cool vocal style. Which was something I really need to hear. I've always struggled with singing with a rock styling. I picked a rock song for me and my mom to cover to challenge myself to improve my skills. The day after watching the Joan Jett concert on tv I could totally sing with the rock styling by copying her vibe. Thanks Joan.
4. Neon Trees
I was searching for music for something I want to use to practice video editing. Neon Trees is a band that I'd heard one or two songs from and so I had and idea that their songs might fit what I wanted to do. Hence, I went on YouTube to check out the video for the song I was thinking of. I ending up watching several of their music videos and really enjoying myself. Their music video concepts were really good and their music was awesome. They have a kind of vintage flavor they incorporate with their newer pop/rock sound. Plus, I thought it was cool that they have a female drummer. I discovered I was more of a fan of their music than I thought I was. I ended up listening to both of their albums a couple times and listening to them while in the car when I was out of town. As a plus they have a song that I think will work well for the video editing thing I'm working on. Shiny!
3. Smithsonian Channel Documentaries on Netflix
A truth about me is that I have a hard time getting to sleep if I can't watch a documentary on Netflix. They are just the perfect thing to relax me and it's okay if I drift off because I can always go back and watch it later. The other truth about me is that I love the Smithsonian Channel. Unfortunately Direct TV can't decide if they are going to give us the channel in our package. So they tease me with it and then take it away. Over the weekend I discovered that Netflix has started to put Smithsonian Channel Documentaries in their collection. I am so happy.
2. Finding Video Clips
I'm totally obsessed with finding video clips for my next fan video project. I don't have all the movies so I have to find some of the clips on youtube. I don't think it will be to hard to do though.
1. The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series
This is a awesome collection of books based on werewolf mythology by author Maggie Stiefvater. I read the first book in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series a couple years ago but never got to the rest of the books. So I started the series over a few weeks ago and finished the first book over my trip. I got really into the story at that point and jumped right into the second one right away. Ended up finishing that one in almost one day over the trip back home and that night before I went to bed. I just started the last book today. I really love all the characters and the layout of the story. I like Maggie's creative spin on the werewolf myth. Most of all I love that it's a young adult urban fantasy romance that does NOT contain a love triangle. I mean I enjoy and love triangle but it is just getting to the point where everything I watch or read has one. I'm a little sick of it. What I love about this Trilogy is that once Grace and Sam get together they stay together and there is no one else in their orbit. Thank goodness.
Well that's all people. Glad to be writing again. Keep it shiny!
