Tunes For Tuesday- Music Video Spotlight - Try by Pink

Hey everyone. Yes. I suck because I did not post a movie post this week. I was really tired from chatting all of Sunday with a friend. Then I went home and stayed up late finishing a book. I meant to write something Monday morning but the day just got away from me. I am however getting my post up on time today.

Originally I wanted do a post that featured all my favorite music videos containing dance. However, I realized that due to all the TV I watched Monday night I was not going to have time to put that kind of post together. I did think that I could talk about at least one music video with dance. I went for Pink's video for her song Try. I enjoy this song very much but the video makes it even more awesome.

This video is all about the choreography which Pink and Broadway dancer Colt Prattes perform. According to Wikipedia the choreography is based on a type of Parisian street performance called Apache Dance. A fact I found very interesting. I also see moments where the choreographers (Golden Boyz and Sebestien Stella) incorporated a modern dance technique called non-traditional partnering, which is a skill I learned a little bit about last summer at a dance intensive. The best way I can think to describe the technique is that it is a way in which dancers use ideas such resistance or using your body as a fulcrum to discover shapes or lift each other easily. Maybe someone else could describe it better but that's my best. Anyway, I liked that the dance isn't all pretty and cute. It's very grounded and rugged to fit the emotion of the song. There's something lovely about raw emotion and I think the song and the video do a good job at showing that. The only thing cooler than the music video is watching the AMAs live performance of the song. Gosh that girl has great breath control and talent.
