Why It's A Must See Movie
Today we discuss The Princess Bride. Mostly because I had really been wanting to watch it. I hadn't seen it in what felt like forever. I totally forgot that I owned it. Imagine the happy dance I did inside when I realized that I could re-watch it and review it for you guys.
On to the reasons why you should watch this if you haven't seen it. First and foremost you should watch it for the screenplay written by William Goldman. In my opinion he is one of the best screen writers. Plus not many people adapt something from book to film as well as he can. This movie is just so quotable and that is because of the writing.
In addition this movie has great performances by it's cast. Since this movie has a tone that switches very quickly from drama to comedy it would be very easy for the actors to come off very silly. However, the actors and director knew how handle that material in way that fits the tone perfectly. It's one of those movies where everything clicks visually as well. Lovely camera work, excellent costumes, great set design. All that good stuff.
Most of all I think people should watch the movie because I think it appeals to so many different people. There is something in there for guys, girls, young and old. There is also something in the film for fans of different genres. The movie covers drama, comedy, action, romance, and fantasy in one big ball of awesome. Basically just watch it or watch it again. If you like reading, read the book as well. I haven't read it in awhile but I remember loving it just as much as I loved the movie. I just realized this is the second Rob Reiner film on this list. I guess I should add him to my list of favorite directors after this.
