Why It's A Must See Movie

This week I went with the dance movie/rom-com Strictly Ballroom. Mostly because dance movies can be great fun (especially for dancers), but also because I think it's a movie that not a lot of people have seen. If you have been following this blog for awhile you know that I am a Baz Luhrmann super fan. I love all the movies he's written/directed. Strictly Ballroom is the first film he directed. Perhaps it didn't have as large a budget as his other films, this movie doesn't really need a huge budget because it's put together so well.

The film does a really good job at using elements of comedy and parody while still studying concepts about life. The movie explores ideas about believing in yourself, facing fears, sometimes the mentors in your life aren't as flawless or as flawed as you think, and winning doesn't matter as much as the journey to accomplish a goal. This is an element of the film that I think makes the film appeal to people that aren't dancers.

Strictly Ballroom has an interesting theatrical tone to it. Something that doesn't always work on film but it works excellently in this movie. It amazing how the director and actors found the perfect balance between theater and film to pull it off. In addition, this film is yet another one on this Must See list that has an awesome soundtrack. This perfect music for the perfect time. The choreography in the dancing is lovely as well. It's not super crazy but it's pretty to look at.

So basically. I love this movie. I'm watching it right now. Yay! Hope everyone watches it too and I hope it makes them smile. I wish I could be in Australia to see the musical version though. Gosh, that would be awesome. See you all tomorrow. Keep it shiny!
